DNZ & Green Standard signed MOU for Biochar Projects

Updated: Oct 15

DNZ ClimateTech Pte Ltd and Green Standard Co. Ltd. of Thailand signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 16 May 2024, in Bangkok, to collaborate on carbon markets and the development of greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation projects in Southeast Asia, with a specific focus on Thailand.

The MOU was signed during the Lunch and Learn Event: Blockchain for Carbon Markets and The Role of Digital Assets Tokenization, which was jointly organized by DNZ ClimateTechChintaiFinstable Group and Kabinburi Industrial Zone

For a start, the parties will concentrate on biochar projects.

Every year, large parts of Thailand are shrouded in thick smoke and haze due to the open burning of agricultural waste. This practice produces significant smoke as the waste slowly smolders, resulting in air pollution that is detrimental to human health and the environment.

DNZ and Green Standard aim to tackle this problem by converting agricultural waste into biochar through pyrolysis.

This approach provides an effective and sustainable method of waste disposal and recycling, improving soil quality, enhancing plant growth and it efficiently sequesters substantial amounts of carbon.

The parties will leverage this process to generate carbon credits, which will help finance GHG mitigation projects.
